During the superintendent's report on June 25, Dr. Bob Maxwell told the Pullman Public Schools board that legal and real-estate steps are advancing on two district priorities: resolving title for the Johnson property and moving forward with an aquatic center purchase.
"Justin and I received an email from our attorney that's been working on the Johnson property and trying to get a default judgment order for the title, and the judge ordered that today," Maxwell said. He told the board the district will receive a copy of the order, file for title and then start the bid process once title is obtained.
Nut graf: The default judgment is a procedural milestone in a long-running property matter; Maxwell described it as the district's closest progress since 2008. Separately, Maxwell said the purchase-and-sale agreement for the aquatic center is "moving forward" and the district and city staff are drafting both a temporary agreement (to cover September through December) and a longer interlocal agreement for occupancy and operations.
Maxwell said drafts for the permanent interlocal agreement have been exchanged by the district and the city and staff will continue negotiations over the summer. He framed the temporary agreement as a stopgap to permit joint operation or use starting in September while the longer interlocal is finalized.
The board had no substantive questions in the public transcript about next steps beyond asking for updates; Maxwell concluded his report and the meeting proceeded to other business.
