During the July 1 meeting the Rules, Confirmations & Public Elections Committee withdrew the nomination of Father Steiner to the Work Release Commission after staff reported health issues and that the commission is not currently meeting under state law.

The chair said the nomination had been deferred four times previously, most recently on June 6, and that the withdrawal would not affect the operation of the commission. Committee staff reported that the recommendation was a direct appointment from the sheriff’s department and that Sheriff Hall intends to reappoint Father Steiner once the commission resumes meeting.

No formal vote on the withdrawal was recorded in the transcript; committee members acknowledged the withdrawal and moved on to other business.
