The Senate State Affairs Committee reported House Concurrent Resolution 6 out of committee Saturday, advancing a ceremonial resolution marking the 250th birthday (semiquincentennial) of the United States Marine Corps.

Buddy Witt, staff to Representative Underwood, described the resolution as a way for the legislature to thank Marines in Alaska — active duty, reserve and retired — and to recognize the Corps’ upcoming semiquincentennial on Nov. 10. "We hope to get this passed to celebrate the semiquincentennial celebration of the United States Marine Corps this coming November 10," Witt said.

Witt thanked the committee for hearing the resolution with limited time left in the session; the sponsor’s office characterized the measure as ceremonial recognition rather than an item with fiscal or programmatic effect.

Senator Bjorkman moved that HCR 6 be reported from committee with individual recommendations and no fiscal note; the chair asked for objections and recorded none. The committee recorded the resolution as reported from committee with individual recommendations and an attached fiscal note notation.

As a concurrent resolution honoring the Marine Corps’ 250th birthday, the measure is ceremonial and does not create new programs or appropriations in state law.
