District academic leaders told the Valley Central Board of Education on July 7 that curriculum and instructional work is continuing through the summer.

The assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction said a mentoring handbook for new teachers is being finalized this summer and that the district completed its last working session with Branching Minds on a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) handbook. Summer school began on the date of the meeting and district staff noted work on finalizing MTSS procedures.

The social-emotional learning committee reported that it has selected a curriculum to recommend for a pilot; committee members said the pilot will not begin in September but may start as late as November after further planning. The assistant superintendent for human resources had no HR updates but extended congratulations to graduates.

Ending: The board was asked to expect additional updates in future meetings as mentoring, MTSS and the SEL pilot move from planning to implementation.
