The Bowling Green City Council opened a public hearing on Ordinance 9 2 8 3 to establish interim R-1 low-density residential zoning for about 2.66 acres at 14556 Sandridge Road recently annexed to the city.

Planning Director Heather Sailor said the planning commission reviewed the petition on May 7 and recommended interim R-1 zoning as the best match for the larger residential lot sizes in the area. Sailor provided the R-1 zone standards and lists of permitted and conditional uses and noted a dwelling is under construction on the parcel.

The council called for testimony from the agent and petitioner, identified in the agenda as Raymond Curis (listed also as Ray Kuris in the transcript); no agent appeared. No members of the public addressed the committee and no correspondence had been received, according to city staff. Council members present had no questions and the public hearing was closed; the transcript records no council vote during the hearing.

Why it matters: Interim zoning assigns a temporary city zoning classification to newly annexed land and affects permitted uses and future development while the city finalizes long-term zoning decisions.
