Yavapai County supervisors approved an additional $1,590,000 July 2 to fully fund the construction phase of a roundabout at Cornville Road and Tassaw Road, bringing the county’s commitment and ADOT administration fees into alignment with updated construction estimates.

Public Works Director Roger McCormick said the construction estimate had risen in the two years since the federal application was prepared. ADOT unit costs, inflation in asphalt and aggregate prices, and ADOT’s federal line‑item estimating method contributed to a construction estimate just over $4.0 million. The county had budgeted $2.5 million in the current fiscal year from the regional road half‑cent fund and Public Works asked the board to appropriate the additional $1,590,000 to allow ADOT to proceed to bid.

McCormick said Cornville Road is among the county’s higher average daily‑traffic county‑maintained roads and the roundabout will improve safety and access for several densely populated subdivisions. Board members from the affected districts supported the funding and the motion; the vote to approve supplemental appropriation was unanimous.

Public Works noted it is carrying a busy multi‑year construction plan; staff said the half‑cent program retains capacity to absorb the increase and that future years’ schedules can adjust as needed.
