The clerk reported one initiative petition to amend the municipal charter on the inspector general position was approved for signature gathering and that the clerk's office and Department of Law are preparing a request-for-proposals to replace the current municode publishing process to reduce up-to-six-months lag time in online updates.
The municipal clerk updated the Rules Committee on July 10 that of two initiative petition applications reviewed since the last meeting, one had been denied and one had been approved. The approved petition would amend the municipal charter to create or modify the position of inspector general; the clerk said the petitioners have 90 days from July 8 to collect signatures.
The clerk also said she is working with the Department of Law on a request for proposals to change the contractor that publishes the municipal code online. “Our current muni code…we have to wait 3 months. We can submit once a quarter, so we can submit once every 3 months, and then it takes them 3 months to get it online. So we can potentially be 6 months behind with our online code,” the clerk said. She said the city is exploring faster options and that the clerk’s office may take primary responsibility for the contract with cooperation from the Department of Law.
The clerk also announced hiring of an elections assistant/communications person on the election team.
These were informational updates; the committee did not take formal votes on the matters during the meeting.
