The superintendent said the district will open subscription-busing registration at 8 a.m. on Aug. 1 and that eligible families will receive an email and robocalls ahead of that date.
The matter matters because available seats are limited: the superintendent said the district has identified about 950 eligible students and approximately 184 seats available "as of today," and families must confirm payment at registration to hold a seat.
District officials plan three notifications before registration: an email on July 25, a robocall on July 29 and a final reminder on July 31. "Registration will open, on the first, August first at 8AM," the superintendent said, and emphasized the process is effectively first-come, first-served. The superintendent added that families must enter credit-card information during registration and that "there'll be no cash or checks, accepted."
The superintendent described how the system will present two stop options to registrants: "The first option will be the stop that's closest to your house. The second option will be the, obviously, the 1 that's the second closest to your house." If families do not complete payment immediately, seats can be taken by others.
On eligibility, the superintendent said distance rules determine who may apply: "if you are in the elementary schools, you must be over 1 mile." The superintendent also said other grade thresholds apply but did not provide further grade-by-grade breakdown in the meeting.
Business Administrator Alex Lisonbee and transportation staff were identified during questions from the public as points of contact for families who do not receive an eligibility email. A resident at the meeting, Maggie Drakeford, asked how to check whether her address qualifies; the superintendent said transportation has addresses in the system and can confirm distance.
Discussion only: the board did not take a formal vote on subscription busing during the meeting. Staff announced the schedule and instructions and were directed to notify eligible families and run the registration process as described.
What to do: families should verify their contact information in the district’s Genesis parent portal before the notifications go out so they receive registration instructions.
