The Board of Commissioners received a proposed appointment on Thursday to make Stephanie Fehrnau the interim 9-1-1 Communications Director, including several stipulations, but tabled the item until the Aug. 7 meeting to allow time for questions and review.

A staff member read the proposed appointment language into the record, which included an amended job description to permit a dispatcher to fill the role, a stipulation that the appointment be re-evaluated at the board's first regular meeting in 2026, and reference to an updated ordinance presented July 17. The commissioners said they had only received the document recently and wanted time to review details and ask follow-up questions of staff and the proposed appointee.

"I'm not in a position to make that decision tonight without speaking to my fellow commissioners about this," one commissioner said. The board agreed to table the appointment and requested staff develop questions for both the commissioners and the candidate and to bring answers to the Aug. 7 meeting.
