Board waives multiple late rental-registration fees, refers one case for collections

The board heard a series of late rental-registration appeals and administrative reports on April 24 and mostly waived late fees for first-time or excused owners.

Owners who appeared in person—including Maritza Lisa Magomez (A4749 Hickory), Bruce A. Dust (402-2402 Henry), Roberto Garcia (4938 Walnut), Andres Vega (3146 Kenwood), Cesar Eduardo Villalobos (4754 Pine) and new owners George Changes and co-owner(s) for properties on Lyman and Walnut—explained circumstances such as recent purchase, first-time renting, vacant status or administrative oversight. The board regularly noted that the annual registration window runs Jan. 1–April 15 and offered staff assistance to complete forms; motions to waive late fees in these individual cases passed by voice vote.

In one long-delinquent case (address referenced repeatedly in the record as the subject of prior 2023 and 2024 actions), the board voted to refer the matter for further follow-up and collection because prior waivers and notices had not been completed by the owner. A board member moved to send the matter to "Smith" for follow-up; that referral carried on a voice vote and staff said the next step would be collections or legal follow-up.

For examples where owners were granted waivers, staff advised them to submit forms and payments within 30 days or to take the copy of the paperwork immediately after the meeting. Several owners were told staff would provide forms and guidance after the session.
