Larimer County Manager Lorenda Volker told the Board of County Commissioners on July 8 that the Colorado House of Representatives has named a section of Colorado State Highway 1 in Larimer County the Commissioner Lou Gator III Memorial Highway.

Volker said the designated stretch runs from East County Road 60 to Interstate 25 in Larimer County. "Commissioner Gator did pass away in office on 09/18/2018," she said, and described the naming as "unexpectedly" received news and "a really nice honor for his family."

The announcement was delivered as part of the county manager update; the meeting record does not show any formal county action required to accept the designation. Commissioners responded with brief remarks of appreciation for the honor during the July 8 administrative matters meeting.
