At its June 2025 meeting the Elkhart City Park Board approved a contract with Hopewell Manufacturing to produce three interpretive signs for Elkhart City parks.

Board members and staff said the signs will be aluminum panels roughly 48 inches by 36 inches (4 feet by 3 feet) and will include historical information about park features. A staff presenter said the vendor included revision hours in the quote so the city can request edits before final printing.

The board discussed translation needs for Spanish speakers in the community and options such as a bilingual front/back layout or a QR code linking to translated text. A board member said, “I would love to know if Spanish can be included somewhere,” and staff replied that revisions could accommodate that request.

Members emphasized that the current order covers three signs as a start and that additional signs could be produced later as budget allows. Staff said designs will be shared with the board for final approval before printing. A motion to approve the cost proposal for the signage carried.

The board did not disclose a dollar amount for the contract during the discussion; staff described the figure as the “total cost of everything” but did not provide a numeric total in the public discussion.
