The Elkhart City building and code department presented three items at the July 8 Board of Public Safety meeting: a new asbestos‑removal contract with Clean Air Environmental Services, a list of five properties to be scheduled for an order to take action hearing on July 29, 2025, and the department’s June monthly report.

Amy Latimer, with Building and Code, told the board the city had sought a different asbestos contractor earlier in the year but encountered issues and selected Clean Air Environmental Services as a replacement. “Back in January, we had asked for a different asbestos contract with a different company. We ran into some issues and needed to find a new contractor,” Latimer said.

The board voted to approve the contract with Clean Air Environmental Services. Latimer also presented five properties that will be set for an order to take action hearing on July 29, 2025; the board placed those properties on file for the hearing. Finally, the board approved and filed the Building and Code Department’s June monthly report.

Legal review of the asbestos contract was affirmed during the meeting; no vote record indicated dissent. Latimer said the list of properties would be followed up after the scheduled hearing and that additional information would be presented at that time.
