Parks and recreation maintenance superintendent Tom Tackett told the Anderson City Parks Board on July 1 that Southside Pool and the May Park splash pad passed Madison County Health Board inspections with "100% compliance, no violations." Tackett said pool chemistry and equipment checks were within code.

Tackett also reported ongoing cleanup from recent storms. "We did have some uprooted trees, 2 or 3 big ones, and a lot of limbs," he said, adding that limbs affected most parks and the trail system, with Jackson Park, Belmont Park and Streety Park largely spared. "We're busy just with everything right now — mowing and... cleaning up limbs here and there," Tackett said.

The department also reported progress on landscape beautification projects. Tackett said crews completed work at Martin Luther King Jr. Park and on Anderson City gateway signs at several entries to the city; the board was shown before-and-after photos. Interim superintendent David Ikes told the board the park long-term control plan is in its final stages and should return for final approval within 30 to 45 days after minor state review.

Board members thanked maintenance staff for the work and were reminded of preparations for the July 3 celebration, which Tackett said will begin at 7 p.m. The board did not take further action on the inspections during the meeting.
