At the start of the June 26 meeting the City of Vallejo heard a community forum speaker who proposed creating a locally managed “Vallejo City Community Beautification Housing Fund Project” to pair neighborhood beautification with small‑scale housing interventions for people experiencing homelessness.

Maya Van told the board she envisions “a city where every street’s clean, every neighborhood is vibrant, and every resident has a safe place to call home,” and proposed a fund to provide initial capital to small community groups and property owners who would host supportive housing and neighborhood cleanups. She said some property owners and small groups have properties and local knowledge but lack the “initial capital to start.”

Staff advised Van that Vallejo already has a Beautification Advisory Commission and an Economic Development Department that may be resources, and offered contact information and web links for residents who want to join or consult those commissions. No instrument of city policy, funding commitment or formal referral was made during the meeting.

Van’s proposal and the staff response were presented during the community forum portion of the agenda; the board did not take further action and referred the speaker to the commissions and departmental contacts listed on the city website.
