Two residents who live along FM 107 urged the Bruceville‑Eddy City Council on July 24 to address poor drainage and maintenance of roadside ditches after repeated flooding last year. Mike Litton, who said his house flooded and that repairs cost about $20,000, described berms and a neighbor’s concrete wall that he said blocked drainage and concentrated runoff onto homes.
“I put my feet down into water,” Litton said, recounting the 2024 storm that flooded several houses. Litton said he and adjoining landowners removed part of a berm by hand to give water an escape path this year and that temporary measures, not a permanent city solution, prevented repeat damage during lesser rains.
Resident Gabriel Valdez asked about the original design depth and capacity of the ditches, their last maintenance date and the city’s plan for culvert replacement and re‑grading. City officials told the speakers the council could not answer detailed operational questions during public comment but directed them to meet with City Administrator Kent Minton at City Hall; Council member Richardson asked staff to add the drainage issue to a future council agenda so the council could receive an update.
The comments put the onus on staff to report back with the status of any plan to replace culverts, re‑dig bar ditches and schedule maintenance. Litton said he and neighbors are seeking formal action because homeowner fixes can shift the flooding problem to adjacent properties.
