McPHERSON — County staff updated the Board of Commissioners that the McPherson County Building renovation is about 55 percent complete, with sheetrocking and initial painting progressing on upper floors and doors and hardware scheduled for delivery.

A presenter who had toured the site said, “they're 55% down with the McPherson County Building. And the doors to be delivered this week. Hardware's in the process. Stairway stairway's in, but the handle coming down the decorative part is gonna be installed this week.” He added that sheetrocking and some painting had started on the fifth floor and work was progressing down to lower floors.

The presenter said the project appeared to be ahead of schedule, though he also noted that change orders could still arise: “we might have a lot of change orders and that kind of thing... Not yet. They're saving and trying to change order because some of stuff's coming in less expensive, and we didn't do something like they were able to reuse.”

Other updates included site details such as a planned light-pole replacement by the BPU at the west entrance, consideration of heated sidewalks or repairs in the plaza area, and the transfer of a display from the Treasurer's Office to McPherson College for restoration. Staff also discussed furniture placement and courtroom desk options for the remodeled building.

No formal votes were recorded on construction actions during the update; staff said they would return with additional information as needed.
