The Board of Trustees on July 17 denied a hardscape-permit application to install paired brick pillars within the five-foot public setback at 415 Nuttall Road.

Director Tapp presented the application and noted the property’s public setback of approximately five feet; both the Landscape Advisory Commission and the Preservation Commission recommended denial. The proposed pillars would be 1 foot 8 inches square and flank a brick walkway. The applicant was not present at the meeting to present additional argument.

Trustees cited consistency and precedent concerns, noting prior enforcement removing structures in public rights-of-way and the absence of characteristics that would distinguish this property from others. A motion to reject the permit request was made and seconded; the roll call vote approved the denial and the permit application was not granted.
