County EMS staff told the Gibson County Commissioners that the county received 412 ambulance 9-1-1 calls in June and reported a year-to-date total of 2,522 calls.

The EMS staff member who presented the monthly report provided a neighborhood breakdown: 172 calls in Princeton, 72 in Oakland, 107 in the Fort Branch/South Gibson area and 57 in Evansville. "That makes a total of 2,522 already for the year," the staff member said.

The presenter also described operational planning for the county fair and other public events. The staff member said a grant-supported display vehicle ("a mule that's outfitted with lights and stuff") will be used for the county fair and that crews will rotate shifts so coverage for 9-1-1 calls remains available.

The commissioners and staff discussed logistics for a proposed public open house at the new EMS building. The presenter said the previously planned July 6 open house was moved to July 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. "That way, it gave us time to plan and make sure that we could have that spot where a medic free unit comes out to go on 911 calls kind of where nobody parks there or walks through there or anything like that," the EMS staff member said. The presenter noted a dedicated unit will be on duty during the event to respond to calls.

Commissioners confirmed the new EMS building has completed its final walkthrough and that remaining minor items have been addressed; staff said the building is operational.
