Residents asked for updates on the Rosenwald tennis courts and on staffing for the city’s MLK Recreation Center.

Michelle Bryant said the school district told her a contract was awaiting city signature to allow relocation of courts to Rosenwald. City staff responded that an agreement exists from years earlier stating the courts would be moved when Oakland Terrace courts were refurbished, and that there is not a current short‑term plan to repair Oakland Terrace because of limited funds.

Staff said condition of existing courts and the need for different levels of repair complicate estimates; one official said the temporary court surfaces at Oakland Terrace have “taken quite a beating” and are not in the quality the city would want transferred. Staff offered to develop cost estimates for different levels of refurbishment to support fundraising and grant applications.

On the MLK Recreation Center, staff reported they had received 63 applications for the open position as of the previous afternoon and expected to begin interviews in August, with the goal of completing hiring and beginning the interview process that month.
