Nueces County commissioners on Aug. 6 voted to not renew the farm lease with L and H Farms LLC for a parcel at the Bridger Borcher Fairgrounds, citing an impending sale of the property.
The court recorded that the lease is set to expire Sept. 30 and that the property sale will transfer leasing authority to the buyer. Commissioners said county staff had spoken with prospective buyers, who indicated they would be willing to negotiate directly with the tenant if the tenant sought to continue farming the acreage after the sale.
Commissioner comments noted there were no performance issues with L and H Farms and the nonrenewal was solely related to the pending disposition of the county property. The court approved nonrenewal unanimously and suggested county staff could offer alternative county-owned acreage, such as land around the county airport, if the tenant seeks replacement acreage.
