Commission moves funds to hire five seasonal naturalists as county employees

The Clay County Commission approved an internal transfer of funds to cover salaries and wages for five seasonal naturalists, moving money from consulting/temporary-services lines to a part-time seasonal employee line (item 2025231).

John Davis, Parks Director, said the county hired five seasonal naturalists directly as part-time county employees this year instead of using temporary agencies to make internships more appealing: "This year, we've hired 5 intern natural seasonal naturalists. We've done this in the past, but usually, we've hired them through the temporary agencies...so we've hired them as part time seasonal staff, directly county employees."

Commissioner Johnson confirmed the action did not request additional funds but only moved existing budgeted money between lines. The motion to approve was made by Commissioner Johnson and passed 6-0.
