The Wildwood Historical Society told the commission it is struggling for operational volunteers after the recent death of its president, and that the society currently has no internet service because provider equipment was damaged in recent storms.
"We're in desperate need of volunteers," the society's archivist said, adding that one immediate need is someone to serve as a facilities manager to handle monthly checks (filters, basic maintenance) and to be a point of contact. The archivist and one other trustee said much of the operational work now falls to a small group and that the current arrangement is not sustainable.
The society also reported that internet service through "Bayes ET" was lost due to equipment damage on the provider's end; the archivist said the society is working with Spectrum as a probable replacement but that the switch is taking longer than anticipated. The society asked for patience and volunteer help while it works through the short-term technology outage and the longer-term staffing gap.
Background and next steps: the archivist noted that the society is a 501(c)(3) staffed by volunteers and funded by memberships and donations. The society's historic property at 18750 Highway 100 (original Route 66 alignment through the Hollow neighborhood) hosts a library, museum, circa-1852 farmhouse and meeting hall and offers monthly public events, typically the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. The society asked commission members and the public to consider volunteering or making tax-deductible donations to sustain operations.
