The Planning Commission approved a sign design review for a proposed freestanding motel sign with an electronic message unit after the applicant withdrew the unclad pole option and agreed the end customer will not use the sign for off‑site advertising.
The Planning Commission approved a revised sign design review for a proposed freestanding 100‑foot sign at a motel property after the applicant agreed to modify the design and accept staff restrictions on off‑site advertising.
Jacob Hosmer, representing Hartlauer Signs, told the commission the applicant revised the original design to clad the exposed vertical pole and agreed that “under no circumstances can the end customer do any off‑site advertising.” Hosmer said the pole will be painted in a color compatible with the building and a cladding cover will be installed.
Staff had recommended denial of portions of the original sign application. The applicant withdrew the design exception for an un‑clad vertical pole and proposed the cladding and advertising restrictions in response to commissioner concerns. Commissioner Kirk moved approval after the applicant’s changes were described, and the motion passed.
The approval is final unless appealed, and the commission recorded the outcome at the meeting.
