Commission recommends multiple Cochrane Road parcels be rezoned to commercial to match current uses

The Livingston Parish zoning commission on Aug. 7 recommended that several adjacent parcels on Cochrane Road be rezoned from R-2 to C-1 to reflect existing commercial uses. The cases involved three separate parcel numbers (cases 25-34, 25-35 and 25-36, at addresses including 9166, 9190 and 9174 Cochrane Road); planning staff said the properties had been operating commercially and were rezoned to R-2 in error at an earlier zoning stage. Planning staff described the petitions as cleanup items to make parcel zoning consistent with current use and with a wider pattern of commercial activity along the corridor; commissioners noted other nearby parcels had been rezoned in previous months and that more petitions from the same owner might follow. The commission voted to recommend approval of each rezoning by roll call; planning staff said approvals will be forwarded to the parish council and that other nearby parcels are likely to be filed separately. The action will align the official zoning with existing business operations and make financing and permits simpler for property owners already using their lots for commercial purposes.
