The Park Ridge Community Consolidated School District 64 Board of Education voted to adopt the Amplify CKLA English-language arts curriculum for grades 3 through 5 at a total cost of $419,774.
District staff told the board the same curriculum had been adopted for kindergarten through second grade previously and that scheduling and special-education conflicts have been resolved for the higher grades. “We’re happy to tell you that we’ve solved those and that we’re now ready for an adoption of Amplify CKLA at these grade levels,” Samantha said during the presentation.
The board discussed teacher schedules and the district’s approach to serving students in the district’s Challenge program. Samantha said teachers will keep enrichment and acceleration work in the regular classroom and that Challenge students will be given more instructional time under the new schedule. “Our teachers are consistently every day providing that enrichment in class,” she said.
Gareth moved the adoption; Phyllis seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote.
Superintendent-designated staff told the board professional development for teachers is planned to begin in May pending the board’s approval and funding. The presentation packet and board memo included implementation timelines and notes from the K–8 ELA review committee.
The board thanked the curriculum review committee for its work and noted the cost and rollout plan for the summer and coming school year.
