The Elko County School District Board received and approved the FY25 spring incentive grant application recommendations March 18 after staff described the district review process for twice‑annual incentive grants.

Cassie (CFO) and other cabinet members explained that the district’s cabinet reviews submitted applications and that many grants are technology‑related, requiring coordination between departments. Trustees asked about matching funds on several school applications; one trustee pointed to an application from Carlin and Vine requesting $5,000 with listed matching funds of $3,700, and asked why matching funds did not equal or exceed requested grant funds.

Staff said some applicants list other grants or fundraising as matching funds and that the district can provide a chart showing the full funding breakdown per project; Cassie said she would prepare that chart as a follow‑up. Trustees discussed Liberty Peak’s playground project, noting it is a multi‑year effort with large fundraising and that the school keeps funds in a designated account to match grants. “Liberty Peak is doing kind of a long range planning to add…more structures to their playgrounds,” a staff member said, and added that the school’s prior fundraising is held in a designated account for that purpose.

The board approved the committee’s recommendations by voice vote. Trustees also discussed coordination with district safety planning when requests could overlap with larger future projects (for example, window film and other safety upgrades) and asked staff to confirm prioritization and eligibility before approving funds.
