The Downtown Design Commission approved a permit to replace three existing electronic message display (EMD) signs at the ballpark at 2 South Mickey Mantle Avenue with same-size, fully digital displays.
Larg Griggs, planning department staff, described the application as a one-for-one replacement: “they're proposing to replace them with the exact same size, and they want EMD3, which is, fully digital.” Griggs said the district requires EMD signs of 25 square feet or larger to go before the relevant design-review body; staff reviewed the request and recommended approval.
Griggs said he visited the site on a game day and observed strong attendance and pedestrian movement around the ballpark. An individual identified as Abulcan attended to answer questions, Griggs said. No members of the public addressed the commission on this item. A commission member moved to approve the application “on the basis that the project complies with the regulations and guidelines of the Bricktown Core Development District Zoning Ordinance as referenced in section c of the staff report,” a second commissioner seconded, and the motion passed.
Commissioners did not record an individual roll-call vote in the public transcript; no conditions or amendments were stated on the record.
