Boulder City Council on March 20 declared March 22 an annual Boulder Day of Remembrance to honor the 10 people killed in the March 22, 2021 mass shooting at the King Soopers store in Boulder.

Councilmember Tara Weiner presented the declaration and read the names of the 10 people identified in the declaration: Denny Stong, Nevan Stanisich, Ricky Olds, Trelona Bartkowiak, Suzanne Fountain, Terry Leiker, Kevin Mahoney, Lynn Murray, Jody Waters, and Officer Eric Talley. “Let us never allow this third death of our 10 fallen neighbors,” Weiner said, urging the community to “say their names” each year.

The declaration notes the city remains committed to creating a public gathering and moment of silence every March 22; staff said the 2025 event will be held on March 22 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Museum of Boulder at 2205 Broadway. The event is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 1:30 p.m., and the city, district attorney’s office, Museum of Boulder and Clinica Family Health and Wellness were listed as participating organizations.

Mayor Aaron Brockett signed the declaration on behalf of the city.
