The Milford School Committee voted unanimously Thursday to offer the position of superintendent for Milford Public Schools to Dr. Craig Consiglie, the districts assistant superintendent, pending successful contract negotiations.

Committee members said Consiglie, an internal candidate with more than 25 years in the district as a teacher, principal and central-office leader, was the most qualified applicant from the pool. The committee began the evening with an executive session to review superintendent applicants and selected Consiglie to move forward. Members noted the hire would provide continuity as the district moves into major projects, including a school building project.

The committee held a formal motion to extend the offer "pending successful contract negotiations." The motion was made by John (school committee member) and seconded by Megan (school committee member). The vote was recorded as unanimous; committee members present approved the motion.

Members also made and approved a secondary motion authorizing the chair and vice chair to enter preliminary discussions related to the offer and bring final language back in a future executive session. That motion was also moved by John and seconded by Chris (school committee member) and carried unanimously.

The committee discussed an anticipated July 1 effective date for the position during remarks but indicated the appointment is subject to completing contract negotiations. Committee members repeatedly praised Consiglies long service to the district and his experience leading curricular initiatives.

The offer follows an executive-session review earlier in the meeting of superintendent applicants. Committee remarks noted Consiglies experience at multiple grade levels and leadership of district academic programs. The committee did not release contract terms at the meeting.
