NVCOG staff reported that acquisition steps for the Kinneytown Dam project are moving forward and that engineering and cleanup planning work is beginning.
Staff said GEI consultants have been engaged and have started data collection for dam‑removal engineering. NVCOG is coordinating that work with CDM Smith, which is designing a sewer relocation that must be completed before dam removal can proceed; staff said the two engineering teams "are coordinating" the technical sequencing.
NVCOG reported several funding efforts: staff said an additional funding request for $10,000,000 was submitted in January to the entity referenced in the transcript as "Noah," that another request for $8,000,000 will be submitted in the coming weeks, and that a separate application to a state brownfields remediation program (recorded in the transcript as "DECB") was submitted for approximately $4,000,000. NVCOG described continuing to pursue available federal and state cleanup and remediation funds and said it is seeking all viable sources.
A community meeting is scheduled for Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Seymour Community Center to provide updates and hear resident concerns; staff described these sessions as informal updates rather than formal hearings. NVCOG said it will continue outreach and funding pursuit and will provide updates to the board as projects progress.
NVCOG cautioned that closing on acquisition is dependent on outstanding items with current owners and attorneys; staff characterized a near‑term closing as possible but did not set a firm closing date.
