The Village of Tuckahoe swore in Melvin Banks Jr. as a probationary police officer during the Jan. 6 Board of Trustees meeting.
Mayor Nancy Andino administered the oath as family and residents gathered at the meeting. Several residents and trustees offered congratulatory remarks, noting Banks's ties to the community and family history of local public service. Margaret Banks identified herself as his mother and gave remarks of gratitude; other speakers included relatives and longtime neighbors who recalled growing up in the community.
Trustee Daryl Taylor and other trustees praised Banks for what they described as an impressive interview and a record of community service and said the board and department will support his career. Banks spoke briefly, thanking neighbors and mentors and saying he aims to represent and serve the community.
The appointment was ceremonial and was entered into the meeting record; trustees then proceeded to regular business including an auditor presentation.
