Trustees reviewed progress on a proposed basement renovation and discussed commissioning a historic-assessment update to guide which architectural features should be preserved during work.
Director Chris Barbera told trustees she contacted preservation consultant Wendy Frontiero, who previously completed an assessment, and that Frontiero indicated she would be available for a site visit in June (she is in California until about Memorial Day). Barbera said she asked Frontiero for a written proposal and noted there is approximately $800 remaining in the original CPC fund that could be approved immediately along with mileage. Barbera said the CPC award — if approved — would not likely provide funding until July 1, so a June site visit would align with the timetable for next steps.
Barbera asked Frontiero to identify and prioritize significant architectural features on the ground and second floors so the trustees can use that guidance before undertaking renovations; trustees supported the plan and requested Barbera circulate Frontiero’s written proposal and budget when ready so the board can vote on an expenditure.
Why it matters: a preservation-minded assessment will help trustees and grant applicants balance ADA upgrades, accessibility needs and required historic preservation elements in renovation plans before spending on construction.
Next steps: Barbera to request a written proposal and budget from Frontiero, circulate it to trustees, and include the item on the May meeting agenda for formal action if needed.
