Boulder City Council on Thursday voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 86 86, designating the house at 658 Pleasant Street as an individual landmark to be known as the Tierra House.
Planning staff presented the application and reviewed the landmark-criteria in Chapter 9-11 of the Boulder Revised Code, saying the Dutch Colonial Revival house likely dates to circa 1906–1909 and has character-defining features including a gambrel roof, leaded glass and a bridge entrance across the Anderson Ditch. Marcy Gerwing of Planning and Development Services summarized staff and Landmarks Board support; the Landmarks Board had unanimously recommended designation at its February meeting.
Two members of the public spoke in support: Laura Schaffer, the project architect, said the owner is excited to restore the porch and preserve the home’s distinctive craftsmanship; a virtual commenter reiterated similar preservation concerns. After council discussion the ordinance was moved, seconded and adopted by unanimous roll call vote.
Council directed staff to include findings and conclusions from the staff memorandum into the ordinance record. The ordinance adopts language agreed with the Anderson Ditch Company to clarify that maintenance or work to the ditch itself does not require a landmark alteration certificate, the staff presentation said.
Ending: Council approved the designation by unanimous vote and staff said it will proceed with the next administrative steps under Chapter 9-11.
