Cheltenham School District staff told the Facilities Committee their long-range capital program is moving into construction and permitting phases, with the high school stadium project scheduled to begin June 1 and classroom additions and roof work in design or permitting stages.

Facilities presenter said, “The high school stadium project, as you know, is scheduled to begin construction on June 1.” Staff said contractors have already begun early coordination and a kickoff meeting is scheduled; the district is completing contracts with vendors and will manage early site work to avoid interrupting school and athletic operations.

On scheduling and accountability, facilities staff said the stadium contract includes a clause that charges contractors per day for missed completion — a contractual mechanism staff said provides motivation for on-time delivery. The district told the committee it will track the schedule closely and communicate status to athletic staff; if construction would affect the fall football schedule, staff said they would provide advance notice so teams can arrange alternate venues or practice plans.

Other capital items discussed: a partial roof replacement at the high school over Stratton Hall is planned for the summer; Glenside Elementary’s six-classroom addition has started the land-development process, with staff reporting conditional approvals from the township’s Shade Tree Commission and Planning Commission as the project works toward final submission. Cedar Brook addition plans are in early stages internally; staff have met with teachers and other building users to get classroom layout feedback.

Facilities staff said two projects — the high school HVAC and the administration-building HVAC — showed no movement in the last 30 days. The committee did not take formal votes on capital authorizations during this meeting; staff said contract execution and state/local permitting remain prerequisites to construction starts.

Committee members asked how contractor staging would be managed to limit disruption; staff said administrative leaders will be part of preconstruction coordination and that the district aims to identify areas for early work to protect programming. A community member asked whether stadium construction would be complete for the start of football season; staff answered the contract schedule targets completion before the first week of the season and that liquidated-damages provisions are part of the contract.

No capital budgets or contracts were approved at the meeting; staff said next steps include finalizing vendor contracts and continuing township submissions for the Glenside addition.
