Board members agreed to carry tenure recommendations and a package of 2025–26 science textbook adoption recommendations to the consent agenda for the next business meeting after staff described the vetting process and committee input.
Superintendent Dr. Paul Horrell explained that tenure recommendations are based on state tenure requirements, including five years of service, evaluation scores and principal recommendations; the board agreed there would be a recognition after formal approval at the business meeting. Dr. Horrell said the item could be placed on the consent agenda so that the recognitions would proceed at a later time after formal board action.
Assistant Superintendent Angie Deloso described the textbook-adoption process for science curriculum. She said principals and instructional supervisors selected teachers to serve on a textbook adoption committee; committee members reviewed digital and hard-copy samples, tried materials in classrooms, attended regional presentations with vendors, and used rubrics to score materials against standards. Deloso reported that kindergarten through eighth-grade teachers “unanimously” favored the Pearson Savvas science curriculum for K–8 and that high-school selections varied by course and instructor need.
Board members asked staff to check links and attachments before the next meeting because some members could not open the materials during the work session. With no objections, the board placed the tenure recommendations and textbook adoption package on next week’s consent agenda for formal consideration and final vote.
