Permanent Public Building Committee members were briefed on roofing and RTU replacement work at Elliott and Broadmeadow schools and approved designer invoices for Broadmeadow roof design.
Ken and Hank told the committee that commissioning at Elliott is nearly complete and Broadmeadow work will begin after vacation week; the contractor will measure and fabricate components in advance. Committee members were told they received only one bid for the Broadmeadow roof replacement after rebidding for full replacement; the low full‑replacement bid was reported as substantially higher than earlier repair cost estimates.
Staff described a previous repair estimate of roughly $270,000 that, after required mockups and other items, likely would have exceeded $300,000. The new full‑replacement bid numbers quoted by staff were substantially larger; staff said the recommended change order for the replacement work would be approximately $634,000 and that the project still had contingency funds remaining. Committee members discussed market conditions, access issues, and the limited number of bidders.
The committee then voted to approve two invoices from GED Consulting Engineers for January 2025 services at Broadmeadow: $4,000 for general January services and $43,200 for roof design work, totaling $47,200 from the designer budget. The motion passed on a roll-call vote.
No formal change order was approved at the meeting; staff said a change order from the general contractor will be presented at a future meeting for approval once the contractor finalizes pricing and schedule.
