First Selectman Fred Camillo and Selectwoman Lauren Rabin used their Feb. 27 meeting update to announce several town developments, from regional grant approvals to local park and veterans planning.
Selectwoman Lauren Rabin told the board that WestCOG approved an additional allocation for a North Street project. "We asked for an additional $461,200 to approve to make sure that we can start that construction in the summer of 2025. And it was approved," she said. Rabin also said WestCOG hired a consultant to review municipalities' Americans with Disabilities Act transition plans and that Greenwich's review is scheduled for summer 2025.
Camillo said the Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET) approved grants tied to repetitive-loss properties identified by WestCOG, noting that two families present at the meeting would be helped; the board described the grant aid as not costing Greenwich taxpayers directly. "These are grants to help in some cases lift the houses up," Camillo said, describing severe flooding impacts for some homeowners.
On parks, Camillo said the health board gave a unanimous vote for a proposed dog park in Byram and that the matter will move to the Planning and Zoning (P&Z) department for further review. He also said the town will look for potential dog-park sites in Riverside after residents raised that need.
Camillo reported an initial meeting of the America250 committee and scheduled site visits March 11–12 for the Veterans Plaza Park project, where the historic district commission and staff presented two design ideas to be considered. He also described exploring whether local veterans organizations should coordinate more formally through a veterans council.
The town recognized Thomas from the Information Technology department as employee of the month and noted the upcoming retirement of longtime town employee Paul Henlicki, mentioning his continued availability to help informally. Public comment included a question about recognition for Merchant Marine veterans; resident David Bold asked whether Merchant Marine veterans are entitled to participation in veterans ceremonies and flag raisings; the chair noted there is no formal restriction on recognition but that a separate request is needed for a dedicated flag raising.
These updates did not produce formal motions or votes in the recorded portion of the meeting but provide scheduling and direction for follow-up (e.g., P&Z review of the dog park; ADA transition plan review scheduled through WestCOG).
