Grapevine council certifies May 3 election; Leon Liao, Sean Shope declared winners

The Grapevine City Council approved a resolution canvassing the May 3, 2025, city election and declared Leon Liao elected to City Council Place 3 and Sean Shope elected to Place 4, the council said in a meeting in the City Council chambers.

Tara Brooks, a city staff member, told the council that “Tarrant County completed the counting of the votes from the May, this past week,” and presented an updated memo and Resolution No. 2025-006 with precinct reports. “The registered voters in Grapevine, there are 34,523. Of those, 17% voted,” she said.

Brooks reported the vote totals the resolution records: Place 3 — Leon Liao received 3,978 votes (100% of the count), indicating an uncontested result; Place 4 — Sean Shope received 3,597 votes (67%) and Brandon Renier received 1,743 votes (33%). Brooks said the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected members “will be conducted prior to next week's council meeting on May 20.”

A presiding official moved to approve the election results “as stated,” and a council member seconded the motion. The presiding official called for the vote: “All those in favor? Opposed,” and the motion carried. The council later voted to adjourn; that motion also carried.
