A county staff member told the County Board on July 1 that she had revised a contractor’s preliminary site plan to ensure an existing ramp and emergency egress remain open and that fence work will leave openings for corrections staff to reach the Sally Port.
A county staff member told commissioners on July 1 that she had asked the contractor to revise a preliminary site plan for construction around a parking lot to preserve an existing ramp and egress route. "I had him make some changes to it because he had isolated the ramp coming off this building ... where you couldn't come down the ramp and go that way. So I had him change that over here so that people will still have access to exit the building via the ramp," she said, adding that removing the egress would be a fire-safety issue.
The presenter said a fence will be installed on the east side of the sidewalk and along the east side of the annex building but that openings will be left so corrections staff can access the Sally Port and related areas. She said a preconstruction meeting is scheduled and that she will check the site regularly; as long as progress is evident, she did not anticipate problems.
The staff member also noted concerns about trash and site cleanup and said she had asked Skyview Tree Service to handle a dangerous tree during the recent storm. No formal motion or vote on the site plan was recorded at the meeting; the discussion was an update on design changes and implementation monitoring.
The staff member indicated she would continue periodic inspections and would report back if progress did not keep pace with the construction schedule.
