The Yellowstone County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved Resolution 25-87 on July 22 renaming the County Administrative Building at 28825 Third Avenue North in Billings in honor of former Commissioner John Oslin. The motion to adopt the resolution was made and approved during the board's public meeting.
County staff read the resolution’s findings, citing Montana law including Section 7-8-2102 and Section 7-5-2101, Montana Code Annotated, as authority for the board to manage and name county property. The resolution notes Oslin’s more than 50 years of public service in Yellowstone County, including more than 30 years with the county road and bridge department and 23 years as a county commissioner, and records that he died in June 2025.
Commissioner [motion-maker] moved to adopt Resolution 25-87 and the chair seconded the motion; the board voted “aye” and the resolution passed. The resolution directs that appropriate signage be installed and that the new name be used in official references to the building going forward.
Christy Ostlin, introduced to the board to speak after the vote, addressed commissioners and attendees and said, "I all I can say is, you know, I really appreciate it. He loved Yellowstone County. And in my eyes he deserves it and and more so bless your hearts. Thank you very much."
