Butler County’s Commission approved a one-year purchase of CityTech Systems Inc. software for $8,091 to support project tracking for public works, including hours, materials, vehicle and equipment time.
Curtis Mader, director of public works, told commissioners CityTech captures near real-time project costs and can be geo-referenced so crews can attach photos and supervisors can assign personnel and follow up. “CityTech is used for our project tracking, hours, material, vehicle, equipment time, all gets dumped into CityTech, and we can use it for almost real time tracking of our projects,” Mader said.
Mader said the county is not fully ready to roll out the system to all crews and expects to buy only one additional year while staff work to integrate the project-tracking front end into the county’s GIS platform. “My hope is this is the last year I have to purchase this software, and it gets rolled into what Mark is doing,” he said, referring to the county GIS program.
Commissioners asked whether the county had used CityTech in the past; Mader said it has. Following discussion, the Commission voted 4-0 to approve the $8,091 purchase.
Why it matters: County staff said CityTech will help supervisors see live job locations and resource usage, improve dispatching and better integrate public works records with GIS data, potentially reducing duplicate software purchases.
What’s next: Staff will purchase the one-year subscription and continue work to integrate CityTech data into the county’s GIS environment.
