Butler County Sheriff’s Office honors civilians and deputies for lifesaving actions
Summary
The sheriff’s office presented civilian-accommodation and lifesaving awards to Amanda Carroll, Deputy Chloe Walker and Sergeant Donald Tharpe for actions at separate emergency scenes earlier in 2025.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office presented awards during Tuesday’s commission meeting recognizing three individuals whose actions helped save lives earlier this year.
Amanda Carroll received a civilian-accommodation award after she reportedly drove to a crash scene, crawled into a crushed vehicle and provided aid to an elderly man until rescue crews arrived. Sheriff’s staff said Carroll — a former medical first responder — remained with the injured man for more than 30 minutes.
Deputy Chloe Walker received a lifesaving award for performing CPR at a residence in February until Whitewater firefighters and Butler County EMS arrived; staff said the patient regained a pulse and consciousness while being transported to the hospital. Sergeant Donald Tharpe also was honored for performing CPR on a six-year-old at the scene of an injury crash; officials said the child regained breathing and was transported to a Wichita hospital.
Sheriff’s Office personnel and commissioners presented the awards in the meeting; recipients received certificates and public recognition.
