The Kearney Board of Aldermen on Sept. 2 authorized the sale and disposition of surplus city property by auction, after a brief discussion about prior methods of selling city vehicles and equipment.Mayor Randy Pogue asked staff about the city's plan for liquidating surplus equipment, noting that the city historically used sealed bids and, more recently, auction houses. He said a local resident, Chris Riley, reminded the city that his firm, CBM Auctions, “does not charge the city sales premiums.”Chief Thomas explained there were three vehicles identified on the item list: two were not drivable and would need towing and one lacked a transmission. He recommended a simple process similar to prior sealed‑bid sales—parking vehicles near city hall with for‑sale signs and accepting sealed bids—or proceeding with an auction house for the other surplus items. The board then approved a motion to sell and dispose of surplus property by auction; the motion passed unanimously. The approved action authorizes staff to proceed with auction disposition; staff indicated some items will be sold by auction and others may be offered by sealed bid or parked for inspection, depending on condition.
