Crafton Borough Council on Aug. 14 approved a resolution to pursue recognition as a Bird Town through the Audubon Society’s BirdTown Pennsylvania program. The Shade Tree Commission presented the proposal and said it would pay the one-time $100 entry fee with a donation from the Betsy Martin family.
Shade Tree Commission members described Bird Town activities—habitat improvement, native-tree selection, pollinator and rain gardens, public education, signage and periodic evaluations that progress from green to bronze, silver and gold levels. Commission representatives said the resolution commits Crafton to the introductory, low‑commitment level and that many of the program’s activities overlap with existing borough tree and pollinator work.
Council approved the resolution by voice vote and asked staff to file the resolution and submit the fee. Commission members said they will track activities and submit annual reports, similar to existing Tree City reporting, and could form a subcommittee of residents to manage program maintenance and outreach.
