City secures $20,000 Preserve Oregon grant to add foundation beneath 1927 section of town hall
Summary
The city received a Preserve Oregon grant of $20,000 to construct a foundation under a 1927 portion of historic town hall; the grant reduces the city’s net expected cost by about $10,000. Staff acknowledged they submitted the application before council review and flagged procedural follow-up.
City staff said Talent received a $20,000 Preserve Oregon grant to fund construction of a foundation beneath the 1927 portion of historic town hall. The city previously addressed the primary foundation work using ARPA funds and then discovered a portion of the building lacked any foundation; that item was pulled from the earlier contractor scope because of cost increases. Staff said accepting the grant will increase the city’s total project cost modestly but, after reducing other scope, the net additional cost to the city is approximately $10,000. Staff also acknowledged the application was submitted before council had a chance to review grant applications and apologized for not following the usual practice of presenting grants in advance; council did not direct rejection and staff asked if any council members objected to accepting the award. No council objections were recorded; staff will proceed with the Preserve Oregon grant and incorporate the work into the ongoing town-hall renovation timeline.
