On Aug. 19 the Bridal Justice, Public Safety and Emergency Services Committee approved a budget amendment to increase revenues by the amount of an additional STOP-DWI Foundation High Visibility Enforcement Campaign (HVEC) grant award.

Sheriff Lafarre told the committee the extra STOP-DWI funds are intended for high-visibility enforcement campaigns and “specific traffic enforcement, things that are deemed … more specific towards DWI enforcement.” The amendment allows the sheriff’s office to receive and expend the award in the sheriff’s budget codes.

The motion to amend the budget moved forward and carried by voice vote. The transcript did not specify the exact dollar amount of the additional STOP-DWI award or any conditions attached to the grant in the meeting record.
