During the August 2025 Pope County Quorum Court meeting a member reported the county had received a letter from the state auditor notifying the county it will receive a little over $14,000 in abandoned-mineral turnbacks.

"We received a letter today from the state auditor that we will be getting a little over $14,000 in mineral abandoned mineral turnbacks. So it kinda just fell out of thin air," the court member said. The presenter said they had circulated a recap of a recent workshop to the court and noted another participant (Larry) might not yet be aware of the turnback notice.
