The Boulder County Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 19 voted to call up a director’s determination approving SE-25-0003, the Fowler/Busey boundary-line adjustment, for review at a public hearing. Community Planning and Permitting staff had issued a determination approving the application on Aug. 11; the board received a request to call the application up on Aug. 12.

Why it matters: A boundary-line adjustment can alter lot shapes, clustering and future development potential. One commissioner said proposed lines created narrow channels and unclear neighborhood boundaries that warranted public examination.

What happened: Sam Walker of Community Planning and Permitting explained that staff had approved the application and that the board had received a timely call-up request. Commissioner Stoltzmann said she had asked for the call-up because the proposed lot lines appeared to create narrow, confusing channels and might prevent clustering consistent with neighborhood character; she requested a public hearing so the applicant could present rationale and neighbors could comment. The board voted unanimously to hold a hearing on the boundary-line adjustment.

Next steps: Community Planning and Permitting will schedule and notice a public hearing for SE-25-0003 and the board will consider the director’s decision with public comment at that hearing.
