A district construction representative updated the Rockcastle County Board of Education Thursday on the county middle-school construction project, showing recent photos and saying work remains on schedule for the start of the school year and for athletic events.
The presenter said both end zones of the field are complete, track paving was scheduled for Thursday and aluminum bleacher seating is installed. Inside the building, the presenter said multiple classrooms and wings are taking shape, the cafeteria and kitchen areas are being finished and the gym has temporary power and new bleachers installed.
Work remaining included mechanical installations behind the building, courtyard planters and a cooling-tower pit. The presenter said temporary railings and other short-term safety measures might be needed because some elements were installed early to accelerate progress.
The presenter said sidewalks are largely in and the team expects to have temporary power in place early in September for testing. Board members and staff walked the site recently and reported seeing steady progress.
Ending: District staff said the project is moving ahead and they expect to be ready for the first football game and fall occupancy milestones, while noting some finishing work in mechanical and courtyard areas.
